<div itemprop="description">Alfred George Goebel, age 92, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017 at the Victoria Hospital.<br><br>He was predeceased into death by his loving wife Rita; his parents William and Bernadette; his stepbrother Ernest; and stepsisters Edna, Hilda, and Marguerite. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters Irene, Dorothy (Scott), and Evelyn (Robert); and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.<br><br>Alfred attended school in St. Boniface and upon graduation from St. Boniface College in 1944, enlisted into the Army Regular Officers’ Training Program. He was honourably discharged in 1945 at the end of the war. He went on to earn his Bachelor and Master of Education degrees (B.Ed. and M.Ed.) from the University of Manitoba. Alfred devoted his professional life to education. Most of his career was spent with the St. James-Assiniboia School Division in Winnipeg; first as a teacher, then as school principal, and finally as school superintendent. <br><br>Upon retirement in 1980, Alfred and his wife Rita began to spend their winters in Texas where he could pursue his love of golf on courses that are always green. He also enjoyed fishing, and looked forward to his yearly fishing trips to Clear Water Bay with his close friends Tom and George. <br><br>Alfred will be remembered for his many kindnesses. Many disadvantaged children, particularly in Ethiopia, benefitted from his generosity. <br><br>He will be greatly missed. <br><br>Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road in Windsor Park. <br><br>In lieu of flowers, donations in Alfred’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. <br><br><br><br></div>
