With her loved ones by her side, Mae Spooner passed away on January 1, 2016.

Mae was born to Walter and Maude Bradley on May 20, 1929 in Kenora, Ontario. She had a happy childhood and attended Kenora District High School (Lakewood), after which she moved to Winnipeg to marry her love, Harvey Spooner. Together they began growing their family of eight children. While raising her family, Mae worked and remained active in the Norwood community. She held positions at the Charterhouse Hotel, St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre. She volunteered for many years with the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion - Norwood Branch #43, eventually taking on the role of President. She kept fit by participating in Tai Chi classes and riding her bicycle. Mae was an avid five pin bowler, winning many championship trophies over the years. Her other hobbies included sewing, knitting and bingo.

Mae leaves behind her loving children Allan Spooner, Brian Spooner (Danielle), Beverley Spooner (Craig), Susan Boyko (David), Barbara McCorrie (Bob), Sandra Wolch (Mark) and Jody Spooner, along with grandchildren Walter and Jessie (Dexter), Marie, Annie and Emily (Allan), Myles, Amy and Russell (Beverley), Alana (Susan) and Jackson (Sandra). She will be missed by brothers Leslie (Bob) Bradley and Meredith (Pete) Bradley, and sister June Green with whom she had a very special relationship. Mae was predeceased by husband Harvey, son Dexter Spooner, and brothers Frank Bradley, Allan Bradley and Ernest (Bill) Bradley.

Mae was a kind and gentle soul. She accepted everyone as they were, without judgement. She loved all her children unconditionally and supported them in every way she could. Even as her health failed, she remained good natured and accepting, never once complaining. She was a special woman and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Respecting Mae’s wishes, a private family gathering will be held.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Calvary Place Personal Care Home for the special care and attention given to our Mom.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Mae’s memory to a charity of your choice.
