It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lloyd Donavon Ediger, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle, on January 24, 2017 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg MB at the age of 80 years.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Janet and their children and John Ediger, Jill and Brent Simonite, and James and Michele Ediger, along with his six grandchildren, Casia Schreyer and family, Amanda Redden, Sarah Gratton and family, Calvin Ediger, William Ediger, and Brett Simonite, and his four great grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Norman Ediger, and sisters Mildred Strueby and Merna Ediger, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends and relatives.

Lloyd was born in rural Saskatchewan and grew up in the Lockwood and Drake areas where he met and married the love of his life, Janet Neufeld. Together Lloyd and Janet embarked on a 58-year adventure in which they moved to Winnipeg, started a family, and created a loving home. Lloyd worked primarily in the printing industry for most of his career, progressing from a collator operator to pressman to shop foreman before retiring in 1998. During these years, Lloyd greatly enjoyed spending time with his family on family vacations, road trips to Saskatchewan, and the occasional getaway with Janet to Las Vegas. Lloyd dearly loved his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, and cherished every opportunity he had to visit with them back home in Drake. After retiring, Lloyd and Janet settled into a quiet rural life at their cottage by the lake in Ponemah, Manitoba. Through these years, Lloyd took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren, all of whom have fond memories of puttering around the yard with Poppa. In his later years, he and Janet moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to his children, grandchildren and his great grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Lloyd was regarded as an amiable, caring, and kind person by all who met him - a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He had a naturally easy-going nature and an immensely generous soul. He was rarely upset by anything and was always able to find the lighter side of even the most trying situation. He was the type of person whom everyone enjoyed being around just because he made people feel good. His warmth and gentleness will be sorrowfully missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, February 3 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street, Winnipeg and all are welcome to join Lloyd’s family in a celebration of his life. While greatly appreciated, flowers are respectfully declined. In lieu, a donation can be made in Lloyd’s memory to Heart & Stroke Canada.
