DR. PAUL ROBERT ZYWINA

We announce with profound sadness that on June 10, 2016, Dr. Paul Zywina died suddenly at his home.

Mourning his passing are his wife, Lucille (nee Martel); his brother, Peter; his sons, Michael, Cameron (Rafaela), and Geoffrey (Shannon); his grandchildren, Andrew, Signe, Kate, and Gabriel; Cristina; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; his nieces and nephews; and a large group of extended family and friends.

Paul was born in Windsor and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. He graduated from Cathedral High School as Valedictorian, earned his Bachelor of Science at McMaster University, and graduated with his M.D. from Queen’s University. After moving to Winnipeg, he completed further training in Psychiatry at the University of Manitoba. Specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry, Paul was instrumental in helping to establish the Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre (MATC); at the same time his private practice flourished. He was well respected by his colleagues and the community for his tireless work addressing mental health needs in Manitoba. His greatest accomplishment was simply being the man he was every single day of his life: calm, kind, generous, patient, intelligent, thoughtful, humorous, insightful, humble and wise. He enjoyed his toys, big and small, loved gardening, relished swimming in his pool, and liked cheering for the Yankees and Tiger-Cats.

With Lucille, he enjoyed travelling to different countries and going to the opera and musicals. They generously supported Rossbrook House, St. Paul`s College, and St. Ignatius Parish. Paul`s most recent passions were watching his grandsons play football and learn to swim.

A funeral service will be held at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church at 255 Stafford Street on Tuesday, June 21 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Boniface Hospital or the charity of your choice.
